Bundled into the prop firm's evaluation and funded-account fee — ProjectX itself doesn't sell retail seats, it licenses the front end to funding brands.
What ProjectX actually is
ProjectX is a browser-based futures trading front end that a handful of prop firms — most visibly Topstep, under the TopstepX brand — licensed as their primary customer-facing platform. Rather than building order routing from scratch, ProjectX sits on top of Rithmic's execution and data infrastructure, which means the platform's reliability and latency are really a function of Rithmic's network rather than anything ProjectX built independently. For traders, that distinction matters less day to day than the interface itself: charting, order tickets, position sizing, and account-level risk rules are all presented in a clean, no-install web app that loads in a browser tab.
The bigger story heading into 2026 is that ProjectX announced it is winding down its third-party licensing business for most partner firms, with support continuing only through February 28, 2026 for firms that are actively sunsetting the offering. Topstep itself has already rebranded and continues to operate its own fork as TopstepX, which functionally replaces ProjectX for that firm's traders. If you're evaluating a prop firm specifically because it advertises 'ProjectX' support, check whether that firm is transitioning to its own branded front end or to a different platform entirely — the underlying Rithmic connectivity generally survives the switch even when the interface's name changes.
Practically, this means ProjectX is now a smaller and shrinking part of the futures prop-trading platform landscape. New traders comparing platforms are usually better served evaluating Rithmic-based options directly (NinjaTrader, R | Trader Pro, TopstepX, Quantower) since those are the terminals most likely to still be supported by the time a multi-month funded-account relationship plays out.
Strengths
- + Clean, modern browser UI that needs no install — good for traders who dislike legacy desktop platforms
- + Fast account switching across multiple funded accounts from one login
- + Built-in risk dashboards tailored to prop-firm drawdown rules
Weaknesses
- − ProjectX wound down its third-party licensing program for most partner firms, with support ending February 2026 — several firms have already migrated traders to TopstepX or another front end
- − Smaller charting and indicator library than TradingView or NinjaTrader
- − API and automation tooling is less mature than Rithmic-native alternatives
Data feeds and connectivity
Runs on Rithmic infrastructure under the hood for order routing and market data, so latency and feed reliability track Rithmic's, not a separate ProjectX network.
Automation and API access
Offers a documented REST/WebSocket API aimed at bot builders and copy-trading tools, but it is thinner than Rithmic's native API suite and was positioned as a trader-facing convenience layer rather than a full algo stack.
Prop firms offering ProjectX
None of the firms currently in our dataset list ProjectX as a supported platform. That usually means it is offered by smaller brands we have not yet reviewed, or that firms have migrated to a different front end — check the platform hub for the alternatives with the widest firm coverage.
Platform availability changes when a firm switches liquidity or technology providers. We re-check each firm's platform list on the verification date above, but confirm on the firm's own site before you buy an evaluation specifically for ProjectX.
Who ProjectX suits
- • Traders who want a lightweight browser terminal for a single funded futures account
- • Beginners who find NinjaTrader or Rithmic's native tools intimidating
ProjectX FAQ
- Is ProjectX still supported by prop firms in 2026?
- Only in a limited, wind-down capacity. ProjectX ended new third-party licensing and is supporting existing partner firms only through February 28, 2026, so most firms that offered it have migrated or are migrating traders to their own branded platform (Topstep's TopstepX being the clearest example) or to another Rithmic-connected terminal.
- Does ProjectX use its own data feed?
- No. ProjectX routes orders and market data through Rithmic's infrastructure, so feed quality, latency, and exchange connectivity are effectively Rithmic's, delivered through ProjectX's own interface layer.
- Can I run an automated strategy on ProjectX?
- ProjectX exposes an API for bots and copy-trading tools, but it is less complete than Rithmic's native API suite (R | API+, R | Protocol API). Serious algo traders typically connect directly to Rithmic or use NinjaTrader instead.
- What should I do if my prop firm is dropping ProjectX?
- Confirm which platform the firm is migrating you to before your next evaluation or funded cycle starts, and check whether your saved layouts, indicators, and risk settings carry over — most firms are moving to a Rithmic-based alternative rather than changing execution venues.
