Verified July 20, 2026
12 of the 34 prop firms we track offer Tradovate. Below: how the platform actually works, what it costs, whether you can automate on it, and which firms to look at.
Vendor
Tradovate LLC (NinjaTrader Group)
Launched
2015
Asset classes
Futures
Automation
Partial / bridge required
Mobile
Full-featured native iOS and Android apps with order entry, charting and account switching, plus a browser client that mirrors desktop functionality.
Cost model
No per-seat software license fee; Tradovate charges its own exchange market-data subscriptions on top of the prop firm's evaluation fee, split into 'non-professional' and 'professional' monthly rates set per exchange (CME, CBOT, NYMEX, COMEX, etc.).
What Tradovate actually is
Tradovate is unusual among futures platforms in that it is also its own broker: the company holds its own clearing relationships and exchange memberships rather than white-labeling execution through a third party like Rithmic or CQG. That vertical integration is why Tradovate can run entirely in the cloud — the same account and layout follow you from the desktop app to the browser to the mobile app with no separate data-feed reseller in between. For prop-firm traders this shows up as one of the smoother onboarding experiences in futures trading: no installers, no separate Rithmic/CQG credentials to configure, and consistent charting whether you're at a desk or trading from a phone.
Because Tradovate is the broker of record, its market-data fees are billed on Tradovate's own schedule and separated into non-professional and professional monthly rates per exchange group, distinct from whatever the prop firm charges for the evaluation itself. Traders coming from a Rithmic-based firm sometimes assume the challenge price is fully inclusive; with Tradovate it usually isn't, so it's worth checking the specific firm's terms on who covers the data subscription during the evaluation versus the funded stage.
On execution quality, Tradovate is generally regarded as solid for discretionary futures trading — fast order routing, a clean DOM, and native bracket/OCO order types — but it is not the first choice for traders who want deep automated-strategy development. NinjaTrader's strategy builder and Rithmic's native API suite both go further for algorithmic traders, so Tradovate tends to suit discretionary and semi-systematic traders more than full algo shops.
Strengths
- + Cloud-native — no install required, works identically across desktop, web and mobile with synced layouts
- + Owns its own clearing and data infrastructure, so there's no third-party feed reseller in the chain
- + Fast, modern order entry (DOM, bracket orders, OCO) with a comparatively short learning curve
Weaknesses
- − Charting is decent but shallower than TradingView or NinjaTrader for custom indicators and strategy backtesting
- − Data fees are billed separately from the prop firm's account fee and can surprise new traders who assume the challenge price is all-in
- − Fewer third-party plugin integrations than the Rithmic ecosystem
Data feeds and connectivity
Tradovate is its own broker-dealer and clearing member, so it runs a proprietary cloud data feed rather than reselling Rithmic or CQG — this is one of the few futures platforms that owns its full execution stack end to end.
Automation and API access
Offers a public REST and WebSocket API for order management and market data, used by several copy-trading and journaling tools, but its algo ecosystem is smaller than NinjaTrader's or a Rithmic-connected platform's.

- • Prop traders who value simplicity over deep customization
Tradovate FAQ
- Do I need to pay for data separately on Tradovate?
- Usually yes. Tradovate charges its own monthly exchange market-data fees (CME, CBOT, COMEX, NYMEX have separate line items) on top of whatever the prop firm charges for the evaluation or funded account — check the specific firm's rulebook for who covers this during each stage.
- Is Tradovate good for automated trading?
- It has a public API for order and data access that several third-party copy-trading tools use, but its native automation tooling is thinner than NinjaTrader's strategy builder or Rithmic's API suite, so heavy algo traders often prefer those instead.
- Which prop firms support Tradovate?
- Several major futures firms offer Tradovate as one of their platform options — see the supporting-firms list below, which is pulled directly from our tracked firm dataset and updated whenever a firm changes its platform lineup.
- Can I use Tradovate on mobile for a funded account?
- Yes — Tradovate's native iOS and Android apps support full order entry and account monitoring, which is more complete mobile coverage than most MetaTrader-based competitors offer for futures specifically.
