Prop firms that allow EAs and algorithmic trading

Rules re-checked July 20, 2026 · 12 of 22 firms qualify

Almost every firm says it allows EAs. Almost every firm also bans a list of automated behaviours that covers most of what a retail EA actually does. This page splits firms into unrestricted algo-friendly, assisted-automation-only, and the specific exclusions each one enforces.

Forex firms vs futures firms on automation

Forex CFD firms are broadly EA-friendly. They run on MT4, MT5 or cTrader, where EAs are native, and their risk comes from execution quality rather than from whether a human clicked the button. The exclusions are latency arbitrage, tick scalping, and any strategy exploiting a delayed price feed.

Futures firms are the opposite. Most require a human present — 'assisted automation' rather than unattended algos — because a runaway system on a leveraged futures account can blow through a trailing drawdown in seconds. Topstep, Apex, Tradeify and My Funded Futures all sit in this camp.

The exclusions that actually get enforced

Latency arbitrage is the number one ban across every firm on this site. If your system profits from the gap between the firm's demo feed and a live market feed, it will be caught by the risk engine, and the account will be voided rather than reset.

Tick scalping with sub-second holds is second. Firms detect it by average trade duration; if your median hold is under a few seconds and your win rate is above 90%, expect a review at payout time.

Third is grid and martingale automation. Rarely banned outright, but the position-sizing rules and max-lot limits make most grid EAs impossible to run at scale — and a martingale sequence that trips the daily loss limit is a breach, not a bad day.

How to run an EA without tripping a review

Run one strategy per account, not five. Firms flag accounts where multiple uncorrelated systems produce a suspiciously smooth equity curve, because that pattern also describes account-farming.

Keep the trade log exportable. The single most useful thing an algo trader can do at payout time is hand over an MT5 report and a strategy description within an hour of being asked. Payout reviews stall on silence far more often than they stall on the strategy itself.

How we classify this rule

  • ·'Yes' = EAs permitted on evaluation and funded accounts, with only the standard latency/arbitrage exclusions.
  • ·'Limited' = automation permitted only with a human present, or restricted per plan.
  • ·Every firm here bans latency arbitrage and feed exploitation — that is not counted against them.

FAQ

Which prop firms are best for fully automated trading?
The5ers, FTMO, FundedNext, Alpha Capital Group, E8 Markets, FunderPro and FXIFY all allow unattended EAs on MT5 or cTrader. FXIFY's broker-backed execution and The5ers' explicit algo positioning make them the two most common picks among algorithmic traders.
Can I use an EA on a futures prop firm account?
Partly. Most futures firms allow ATM strategies, bracket automation and semi-automated entries but require you to be at the desk. Fully unattended systems breach the trading-style rules at Topstep, Apex, Tradeify, Alpha Futures and Take Profit Trader.
Do prop firms ban EAs bought off the shelf?
Not for being off the shelf, but a widely sold EA creates a duplicate-trading problem: dozens of accounts at one firm placing identical trades at identical times looks like coordinated group trading, which is banned nearly everywhere. Modify entry timing and sizing if you run a commercial EA.
Will an EA get my payout denied?
Only if the strategy itself is on the exclusion list or the firm cannot verify how it works. Have a plain-English description of the logic ready before your first withdrawal request — see our payout-denied guide for the full dispute process.
