Prop firms that allow news trading

Rules re-checked July 20, 2026 · 15 of 22 firms qualify

A news restriction is the rule most traders discover after they have already paid. This page separates firms with genuinely no blackout from firms that allow news on the evaluation and then restrict it on the funded account — which is where it actually costs you money.

These firms permit it on some plans, inside a narrow window, or only after a paid add-on. Read the note before assuming your plan is covered.

Why prop firms restrict news trading at all

During a tier-one release the underlying liquidity thins out for a few seconds and spreads widen dramatically. A trader who deliberately straddles the release can capture a move that the firm cannot hedge at the same price on the real book. Firms that hedge externally therefore either ban the entry window or price the risk in.

Futures firms almost never have a news rule. CME order books stay deep through releases and the firm's risk is capped by position limits rather than spread, which is why every futures firm on this list is unrestricted. The restriction is a forex-CFD problem, not a trading-skill problem.

The three restriction patterns you will meet

Pattern one is the two-minute window: no opening or closing a position within two minutes either side of a high-impact event. This is the most common and the most survivable — you can still hold a pre-existing position through the print, you just cannot enter at the number.

Pattern two is the add-on: the base account restricts news and the firm sells a 'swing' or 'news' upgrade that removes it. FTMO's Swing add-on and FXIFY's plan add-ons work this way. The upgrade is usually 10-20% of the challenge price, so factor it into the cost comparison before you decide a firm is cheap.

Pattern three is the profit clawback: news trading is technically allowed, but profit made inside the news window can be removed from the payout at the firm's discretion. This is the one to avoid. It is unenforceable-looking on the sales page and completely enforceable at withdrawal time.

How to verify before you buy

Open the firm's rulebook, search for the words 'news', 'high impact' and 'economic calendar', then check which of the three account stages each mention applies to. A rule that only appears in the funded-account section is still a rule that will affect your payout.

Then check which calendar the firm uses. Firms that say 'high-impact events per Forex Factory' are testable in advance; firms that say 'events deemed high impact by the risk team' are not. The second wording lets a firm classify an event as restricted after your trade.

How we classify this rule

  • ·Flag set from each firm's current public rulebook, not its marketing page.
  • ·'Yes' means no scheduled blackout on the funded account, not just the evaluation.
  • ·'Limited' means the restriction exists but is either narrow (a two-minute window) or removable via a paid add-on.
  • ·Firms with a discretionary profit-removal clause are never marked 'yes', regardless of what the FAQ says.

FAQ

Which prop firms allow news trading with no restrictions at all?
Futures firms are the clean answer: Topstep, Apex, Take Profit Trader, My Funded Futures, Tradeify, Alpha Futures and Funding Ticks have no news blackout on any stage. On the forex side, The5ers, Alpha Capital Group and E8 Markets allow it on both the evaluation and the funded account.
Can I hold through NFP if the firm restricts news trading?
Usually yes. Most restrictions target opening and closing inside the window, not holding an existing position. But 'usually' is doing a lot of work in that sentence — a minority of firms treat any open position during the release as a breach, so confirm the exact wording for your firm.
Is a news add-on worth paying for?
Only if your strategy genuinely trades releases. If you trade London or New York session structure and simply want to avoid an accidental breach, a firm with no restriction at all is cheaper than a firm plus its add-on.
What happens if I breach the news rule by accident?
Outcomes range from having the individual trade's profit removed, to the account being reset, to a hard breach. On evaluation accounts it is usually the trade; on funded accounts it is usually the payout. Document the trade and the calendar timestamp if you plan to dispute it.
