The exact FTMO news rule

Allowed on the evaluation. On funded accounts the restriction applies to the two minutes either side of high-impact releases for swing-restricted account types.

News rules are the most common reason a funded payout is reduced or denied: profit made inside a restricted window is often removed before the payout is calculated, even if the account was never breached.

Evaluation vs funded account

Many firms allow news on the evaluation and restrict it only once you are funded — the opposite of what traders assume. Read the funded-account terms before you build a strategy around releases like NFP, CPI or FOMC.

  • NFP (first Friday, 8:30 ET)
  • CPI (mid-month, 8:30 ET)
  • FOMC decision (2:00 ET)

Related FTMO trading rules

Expert advisors: EAs are permitted, including on funded accounts. Tick-scalping, latency and copy-arbitrage EAs are the ones that get flagged.

Weekend: Standard accounts must be flat before the weekend; the Swing add-on removes that and the news restriction together.

Copy trading: Copying between your own FTMO accounts is fine. Copying a third-party signal that many other FTMO traders also run triggers the duplicate-trading rule.
